Spence Plantation sits on the Lexington side of Lake Murray near the US-378 corridor, reached by Old Cherokee Road and Wise Ferry Road. It is a low-density neighborhood of custom homes.

What sets it apart is the mix of direct waterfront homes, some with hundreds of feet of shoreline, and a community boat ramp and dock that give lake access to homes that are not on the water.

Streets include Morning Shore Drive, Morning Shore Court, Morning Lake Drive, Due West, and Captains Watch.

Name check: Spence Plantation is a different neighborhood from Spence's Point, a lakefront condo community, and Spence Point, a small single-family neighborhood on Davidson Road.

Homes in Spence Plantation are custom-built single-family residences. You will see traditional brick and Mediterranean-influenced designs, and many homes have been renovated with updated kitchens and baths, pools, multi-car garages, and finished outdoor living spaces.

Heated living areas commonly run from the mid-2,000s of square feet to 6,000 and more, and the largest estates are above 9,500 square feet. Floor plans often face the lake and focus on outdoor living. Many homes date from the late 1990s and early 2000s, so updates make a big difference in value.

Lots are generous, many roughly 0.6 to more than 1 acre, and some waterfront parcels are several acres. Build-ready homesites come up now and then, subject to septic and building requirements.
